Nifty is a striking and
brilliant bay overo standing a mighty 13.2 hands tall. He was born May 18
1992 and was bred by Cindy Ellis of Rio Linda California. An All American
, modern bred pony of uncommon pride, beauty and talent, Nifty is an
outstanding example of the American Sport Pony. He is a “First Premium” AWR/American Sport Pony, registered in the American Warmblood Registry / Sport Pony Division….He is producing sport pony foals and is one of the foundation stallions in this prestigious registry. Nifty is the featured
stallion on the AWR /ASP on the website at www.americansportpony.com. Nifty is also registered APPR (American Paint Pony Registry) PtHA, (Pinto Horse Association), and the International Registry of Colored Horses. Nifty is a stallion that
is producing sport type ponies as well as Hunter type and ponies very well
suited to western disciplines. All his offspring hold
the qualities of their sire while complimenting the attributes and
qualities of each mare. When bred to Quarter and Quarter type mares the
offspring are beautifully made
modern Quarter and Paint type ponies with well muscled bodies and typy
heads. They display a layed back but not lazy disposition and tremendous athleticism. Some of these youngsters would make
awesome junior rodeo types
and some are perfect for pleasure and trail as they are patient and quiet. When crossed on Welsh and
Welsh type pony mares the offspring are blessed with Nifty’s power and
quick abilities combined with the animation of the Welsh breed. that make
them superior Sport ponies. This is a favorite cross of mare owners that
are looking for performance, stamina, with power for jumping or driving in
a pony size package. These youngsters are wonderful
they display a more pony look with big horse movement. Dispositions
are quiet yet energetic and full of mischief as they should be. These are wonderfully
built ponies with fluid and free movement. When crossed on Arabian
mares (my personal favorite) these kids are
full of what I like to call cool fire. Elegant long legged and
agile. These youngsters are a
wonder to watch as they seemingly float across a pasture and love to trot.
They tend to be more compact that the Arabian with a good round hip and
nice loin. Lovely shaped necks that go on forever. These are just a few of
the breed crosses that we have seen a number of foals from, As different
as they may be in type they all have strong resemblance to their sire.
Check out our foal page and see what some of the offspring are doing now. Early on we started to
show Nifty at halter where he won many championships and our first of many
buckles. As we continued showing it became apparent that Nifty liked it!
He commands attention and looks from everyone with his prideful stride
and air of confidence. Nifty is often the most photographed animal
at a show. With limited showing,
Nifty proved to be an excellent and talented jumper with beautiful natural
ability. Winning several championships in both Hunter and jumper
divisions. Some of his offspring are wonderful young hunter ponies Combined driving is our
sport of choice and 2002 was a great show year for Team Nifty. We traveled
from Southern Ca. to Northern Ca and to Washington, Oregon, Colorado and
finished the CDE season right here at the California Classic. This was our
fist time at The advanced level and we finish in second place. Not too bad
for the first time. See our news and results page for details of 2002. We
have been competing for five years and we started out at Training level
and have moved through Preliminary and Intermediate and began the
Advanced level in 2003. Nifty is a wonderful CDE competitor and
he loves this job. If you would like to know more about combined driving
see our news and results page for a description and origin of Combined
Driving. Our plan for 2005 is to compete on the West Coast to prepare for the World Single Pony Championship for 2007. This is a long range goal and commitment. Nifty and I will begin training again under David Ventura in 2005 and 2006 both under saddle and in harness. David is wonderful and a skilled trainer, clinician in art of Classical Dressage. Many in the Combined driving community have discovered that David has the wonderful ability to train and instruct both the equine and rider or driver. David is also a Registered Driven Dressage Judge in the American Driving Society. The Venturas raises Hannovarian horses and own the beautiful stallion "Pointmaker". The American Sport Pony Registry (ASPR)is owned by the American Warmblood Registry . They began registering sport type ponies just a few years ago and the registry is growing leaps and bounds with new ponies being registered every fall. The goal of the ASPR is to encourage the growth of Sport Ponies and to record their bloodlines, performance and show records throughout the United States. The mighty Sport Pony is rapidly becoming
popular because of the many uses they are suited for. They are tremendous
athletes with wonderful dispositions making them an excellent choice as
family mounts for any disipline as well as high level competitors. Many
are of Welsh, Quarter, Arabian and Morgan crosses. Some are
purebreds, what they all have in common is that they are wonderful with
the nature to do the work. Combined Driving, is one of the
recognized events where the American Sport Pony shines. The Registy
is very supportive of the efforts of pony owners that are competing in
combined driving, driving dressage, arena driving trials, as well as
Eventing and Jumping. They would like to offer the help of the
registry to make sure that these events can continue to grow.. The AWR/ ASPR is offering across the United States, support in the form of event sporsorships aside from and as well as awards for the ASP registered ponies. Driving, Eventing and Pony Sport
organizers and clubs are encouraged to contact the AWR/ ASPR in the
early planning stages of an event. Event organizers should contact
the AWR/ASPR for more information at the following. Americn Warmblood Registry |
